love & lust for Betsey Johnson jewellery

15 January 2011

double finger snake - bull dog - crystal monkey - opening treasure chest - under the sea turtle
domed flower - vampire bat wing - diamonte skull with bow - wrap around lizard - diamonte skull with rose

dollhouse birdhouse - dollhouse white bear - jungle fever giraffe - crystal monkey - dollhouse cat - floral mannequin

If you saw my recent list of packages i'm awaiting the delivery of you, may have noticed that I have ordered a number of Betsey Johnson pieces. This being because I discovered her jewellery before Christmas and my intrigue has developed into an obsession. I find myself all too often scouring karmaloop, ebay, shopstyle and all sorts of websites for new designs, old designs and Betsey bargains! Almost all of my christmas money has gone on these beautiful pieces and I want so much more! I'm becoming an addict.. can you tell? So far I have ordered the jungle fever giraffe necklace and earrings as well as the crystal monkey necklace and ring. I'm desperate to get my hands on the giraffe ring! Alas I have run out of money for now.. but it will be mine! (cue evil laugh)

I think Betsey Johnson's designs are very different compared to other jewellery designers that are on the same sort of level, I find that others generally stick with contemporary simple pieces and if a little more elaborate the colours are more muted. I love how bright and fun these pieces are without looking like costume jewellery. the giraffes espcially. I adore the gems for eyes and ears along with the darkened gold for the horns. Everything is so well finished especially the recent dollhouse collection of which I have found myself lusting after soo many pieces! If I could have all of these items I would but that just isn't realistic at all. I would adore the chance to get hold of the standing cat ring and the birdhouse or white bear necklaces.

Have any of you heard of Betsey Johnson or am I now introducing you to her jewellery? What do you think? I'd love to know! (I hope it's not just me that she appeals to).

spring /summer 2011 trends: what do you think?

12 January 2011

I'm just going to dive straight into this because it's quite a big post and the title speaks for itself I think and so here they are..

More aspects of the 70's are back! This time with sophisticated glamour and bohemian. My perfect work and play outfits will no doubt consist of these 2 influences throughout the first part of the year.

I find that biker clothing is something I love to embrace but I don't do often enough. It is one of my favourite trends. And although I feel I shouldn't say so, I love dressing around a black piece of clothing or just putting my cropped black biker jacket over whatever it is i'm wearing. And along with all that I can't wait to get my own bike! :D

I'm not the biggest fan of punk fashion as an influence. I think it can be taken as 'you must dress punk' rather than minimally using the way that items are accessorised with studs, safety pins and rips etc and so it will often be viewed as an over the top trend. But i do like studs and rips here and there!

In 2010 jumpsuits and playsuits were big and now it seems that they will continue to be all throughout 2011, even the autumn/winter predicted trends include them in some aspects. Following the sophisticated glamour trend there will be a lot more 'wear to work' jumpsuits this season and I for one will be looking for my perfect smart playsuit.

I think that tail hem dresses and skirts were slowly appearing in autumn 2010, from what I can remember anyway. These are those that are longer at the back than the front. At first it seemed that people didn't know what to call this style and so we saw the mini/maxi dress name, I much prefer the term tail hem dress I must admit. Though I don't think i'll be investing in one, at least not an obvious tail hem.

All last summer I wanted a pair of capri pants but couldn't find the right style to suit my body shape. This season there should be tons in stock to pick and choose from but now bares the question.. what shoes do I wear with them? New ones of course!

Nautical was a huge trend last year and the majority of us loved it (my love developed over time!) This year navy's, sailor-esque dressed and anchors are still drifting about but it's more about the dominant stripes, navy's in particular.

It seems that a lot of last years trends are evolving further this year which is great because it's always the best of the trend that will dominate. Lace clothing is of course lingering for a little while longer but now it is antique classic lace patterns that the are thing to go for.

These cat eye sunglasses from 50's / 60's glamour completely remind me of going to the pantomime when I was younger. There are more subtle cat eyes slowly appearing online so at the risk of looking like you're in drag it might be best to go for those.. but who knows if this trend will lift off or not? It will be interesting to see.

As with 2010 clogs are still here to make us look as though we cannot walk. Those with brass studding specifically will be on trend during the summer so dig last years out and attempt a hop skip and jump, I dare you ;)

I think that the appearance of crochet and tassels has followed on from lace coming back into fashion. I'm a great lover of crochet especially when it comes to waistcoats and summer cover ups but tassels i'm pretty sure are not for me ..maybe on handbags?

There are so many trends this spring /summer that it's quite overwhelming but then we shouldn't complain because there can be so much diversity in your wardrobe and there will still be a lot of use in your 2010 wardrobe as well!

Another few self explanatory trends this spring /summer are sheer maxi dressesbell bottoms and flares and 60's ladylike with shift dresses and powerful feminine silohuettes, this is somewhat similar to the sophisticated glamour but with more pinks and girly florals. Then there is of course the return of kitten heels.. another mark of the 50's 60's glamour.. not something that I will be indulging in

If you are interested in a post on the up and coming hair trends please let me know as it's something i've also been looking into :) I hope you liked this post. Thanks a lot for reading!

spring/summer: what i want from the new lines

8 January 2011

I've put a halt on buying warm coats, oversized cardigans and chunky snoods and put myself on a strict spring summer diet. My aim is to buy at least one item each week that I can wear through out the next 2 seasons. I'd like to step a little out of my comfort zone and into dresses and skirts more often which is perfect at the moment because I love the up and coming trends of 70's bohemian and sophisticated glamour, the antiqued lace and continued nautical style. They are all right up my street, excluding powerful feminine shift dresses .. those I will not be shopping for.

So just a few things from my wishlist today as I am absolutely loving the h&m new line and items drifting into topshop and other stores. Some items, peterpan collars especially, i'm not sure if I could pull off due to basoomas and other aspects so we will see which of these (after trying) that I get my hands on!

rust crepe pussybow dress - dark orange long sleeve flared dress - primark shirt dress in store march £15

I hope you liked my little preview of what is pretty much just spring trends at the moment and my wishlist so far. I can't wait until the summer so that i can live in dresses! :)

my dressing table

6 January 2011

When I moved into our apartment I got the opportunity to have a real dressing table, vintage through out.. mirror and all (as you can probably tell). And although it may not be exactly what I had dreamed of, it has definitely suited me just fine for my first and I love it all the same :) I've taken a few snaps so that you can see what I keep handy and the things I like to have near me. Like the first giraffe Shaun bought me back from when he had to go abroad on business and my white vintage looking heart that reminds me of my bestie. I think that perfume bottles are too pretty to hide away in a draw and so my favourites sit out among my other regularly used items of the moment. Normally there wouldn't be this much moisturiser on the side but the winter weather has sucked the moisture out of me it seems and so it is definitely needed! Added to this collection now is my Lush Dream Cream because my eczema has flared up and this is the only thing that calms it.

If you have any questions about anything you see in these photos you can either email me at my brand new email address: abby@abbzzw.com or comment below and I will reply so don't forget to check back :)

Today I finally got around to buying my abbzzw.com domain name. Long overdue as i've been saying that I wanted to for a good 6 months. And so begins the transition of the re-direct. Hopefully within the next few days everything should be back to normal posting and following wise and you'll all be able to see and follow my blog via the new web address. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for reading!
