portugal photo diary - out and about

Following my 'at the villa' photo diary there are a tonne of things that we love to do across the Algarve when we go and this time I took plenty of photos. This post focuses on where we went and how we spent our days when we weren't at home by the pool.

We went to Zoomarine, a fantastic waterpark with dolphin and sea lion shows, rapids and water slides, an aquarium, sea life interaction and more. It's a great day out and whilst it was incredibly hot that day we all enjoyed it. :)

We spent a day visiting Sagres; the most southerly point of the Algrave, and then driving up the mountains to a beautiful little village called Monchique. The scenery was just incredible throughout the whole drive as it always is, so much so that we stopped for lunch at a well known cafe that looks out across the valley and mountains. Being surrounded by trees growing limes and lemons and eagle watching across the mountains made it the perfect lunch.

Mountains etc during drive up to Monchique:

We shopped Lagos and Portimao mostly and attended flea markets in Sagres and Lagos. Lagos is just a 10 minute drive up from the villa, it's a pretty town with a marina, awesome fish market, a healthy supply of boat and kayak activities and of course a lot of traditional (and tourist-y) shops. We were lucky enough to time it so that we could visit the flea market when it came to Lagos on the first Saturday of the month and here we found everything, seriously they sold all sorts! I bought quite a few family gifts at this market and it was great to see the Portuguese gypsies again.

Lagos:

Portimao also has a beautiful harbour and sea front, we stopped front lunch in one of the local independant restaurants and had awesome ice cream sundaes on the way back from the town. This town used to be littered with great little jewellery and accessory stores as well as a lot of 'chinese shops' but there seemed to be less of them this year. It's still a great place to visit an walk around.

We also visited the two shopping malls that we know of in the Algarve; one in Portimao and one in Faro (which is where the airport is). Both malls have the stores I LOVE to shop in whenever possible; Stradivarius, Pull&Bear, Parfois, Mango, Bershka and more. I adore these European shops and even more so when I'm actually abroad so I purchased a number of things - but I'll leave my haul to a separate blog post.

Whilst in Faro we spotted that just outside the mall there was an American car show going on so we popped over and found some amazing bits of kit and that was pretty much the last thing we did other than lazing about poolside for the last two days.

I hope you liked the second part of my Portugal photo diary :)
