Twinning

13 October 2018

Matching fashion and style with our loved ones has become increasingly popular over the last year or so. Be it his and her shoes, father and son matching shirts or mother and daughter outfits.

High street stores have caught onto this adorable trend and are rolling out collections left, right and centre. Matching pjs is one of the go-to's that both Next and Matalan have on offer. Matalan recently launched a range of star print pyjamas for all the family (including the dog) as part of their Alder Hey charity hospital collection. River Island also launched a mini me collection 'Silver and Lux' for mums to stylishly match their daughters!

new in: Betty London sandals & Why i'll be living in low block heel sandals this summer

30 July 2018

I've featured Betty London in quite a few blog posts over the last couple of years. It's one of those unknown brands that not many people seem to know about but that I've found always deliver a cracking shoe that is both comfy and in style or on trend. My favourite Betty London footwear is a pair of tan coloured flat leather and suede calf boots that I bought about 2 years ago - they are just so easy to wear throughout the autumn and winter months because they go with so many outfits and they're some of the comfiest boots I've owned. Having some winter shoes and heels by Betty London I've wanted to try a pair of sandals, flat or otherwise so I ordered these bad boys last week and they haven't disappointed!

The main thing that I love about low block heels is that they give you some elevation, but not too much which means no achey feet, not too much pressure on the balls of your feet and the benefit of a little aesthetically pleasing lift for your legs.

I get foot ache relatively easily with completely flat flip flops, sandals or ballet pumps so this type of block heel is the one for me this summer!

brands i love: Footwear by Ted Baker

30 June 2018

The difference between a good pair of shoes and a bad pair had a lot of do with the brand quality. We expect a lot of our shoes; supporting us day in day out while being pounded into the ground, so it’s important that the quality and assurance we expect of shoe brands meets expectations, especially where more expensive brands are concerned. That being said, we all have brand names we do and don’t trust and that can be a very personal thing. Ad with making a complaint, we as the general public are more likely to talk about negative experiences than positive (statistically we’re a bunch of complainers and that sucks!) and so a new feature is born. Brands I love. Together let’s turn the stats and make it more likely for people to speak out about the brands we love instead or those you hate!

Ted Baker
I don’t have any experience with Ted Baker clothes, their accessories however are the bomb (insert cool sunglasses emoji). In the typical Mum fashion I’m one of those people who shops for practical items however I’m unwilling to compromise on appearance. Just having a pair of shoes look great isn’t enough for me anymore as they have to feel great too! Gone are the days of struggling and suffering through a night out or day of work because my heels are killing me, gone are the days of sneakily taking shoes off under the desk or carrying them to McDonalds at 3am before hitting the taxi rank and heading home. Ted Baker shoes as well as a couple of other brands have opened my eyes to comfort and style and it’s brilliant.

Look at these shoes and tell me they don’t look great!

12 stand-out sandals perfect for summer

30 May 2018

Now that we've had a brief display of how hot the weather can be it's times like these that most of us realise how much we need some suitable shoes or sandals to keep our feet cool and to style with our summer clothes.

Footwear can be such a personal thing, especially when you choose to have a such a wide range of options available to you at home (otherwise known as collecting/hoarding/being a shoeaholic). For some of us it's not enough to have just a pair of flip flops for the beach and a pair of sandals for the bar. It's perfectly okay to have a pair of thick strap flat sandals for wandering about town, some slightly heeled versions for a meal out, metallic flipflops for the beach, toe-post sandals with tassels for an easy day-to-night look and any others that suit your style. The options really are endless!

Artificial plants for modern landscaping - What you need to know

28 March 2018

The finely trimmed lines and lush green colour of plants can brighten up the mood any time of the day. But to keep them looking the same all day, every day is a cumbersome task and prove to be quite expensive while managing large spaces over a long period. To keep big office spaces, malls, and hospitals look as sharp with a contemporary look, artificial plants and trees have proven to be of great help. Starting from ornamental grasses to boxwood topiary, the choices with silk plants are innumerable for modern landscaping designs.

that polka dot trend and how to wear it without looking retro

23 March 2018

Polka dots can look quite retro and while I like that look on other people it’s really not something that suits my style. However this season has seen some great pieces being launched into the highstreet and I’m very tempted to be brave and give polka dots a go, with the aim to avoid retro vibes if I can. Some of these pieces could be worn in a way that looks styled in the 60s but I think that they are also perfectly suited for a formal workwear ensemble or fun night out outfit and this is exactly how I’d choose to wear them. There are also a number of types of dotty accessories that could add a statement to an otherwise plain or ordinary outfit which could be a simple way to ease into polka dot trend

Is getting an emotional support animal status difficult?

22 March 2018

Everybody deserves an uncomplicated and peaceful treatment for any sort of illness. But when it especially comes to the illness of minds, sometimes your pets know it better how to help you deal with a certain kind of a trauma than your therapist who would have otherwise prescribed you the stereotypes, and in a way more isolated and repressive techniques. Have you heard about the ESAs yet? It’s all about getting an animal, preferably dog, in most cases, by your side for your emotional support especially when you are going through mental stress.

new in: ring detail mini backpack

13 March 2018

The ring detail that started gaining popularity because of the Chloe bag can now be found everywhere. I’ve seen leather gloves and ankle boots with ring pulls, belts with a metal ring decorating it or in place of the buckle and of course many bags inspired by (and mimicking) the original. Handbags, cross body bags and backpack styles are all decorated with this circular hardware and they're littering our store, online shops and social media inspiration - of course this means that we all want one!

I’ve contemplated buying a number of bags with this detail now, most recently including a similar style backpack on asos but it was too big and large soft pink cross body bag from Matalan but it was too pink! This bag from Bagail.com inevitably won me over and I'm pleased it did.

10 ring detail bags that won’t break the bank | a wishlist

12 March 2018

For some time I've been looking for a bag which use the perfect circle hardware in their design. Be it as a handle, decoration or something to help lift the flap and open your bag, this ring detail is all over the fashion industry. I’ve noticed that there are three types of these bags on the market; Some metal ring bags are obviously over-the-top similar to the designer Chloé’s bags (which is very unfair), others are clearly inspired by them (rather than a very close copy) and others simply hold the hardware similarity and nothing more.

I really like the metal ring detail on these bags because it’s something different to the many tassel and fluffy bags around at the moment. For me I need a simple clean-lines accessory that will suit any of my outfits with ease. These backpack, tote and cross body bag designs are more wearable for me and suit my obsessed-with-biker-jackets style.

Learning comfort is king when it comes to footwear and not letting it cramp my style!

8 March 2018

I have recently learnt that comfort is king when it comes to shoes. After going for a reasonable length walk in my daily-wear calf boots and getting blisters (again) I decided enough is enough and I need some decent trainers in my life. Sure I have my Nike Airs but they don’t go with everything thanks to the colour I chose (burgundy, grey and bright orange) and I also have some gel sole Asics but again I opted for a colour which just doesn’t suit every day to day outfit which leaves me a bit stuck for easy-to-wear comfy footwear!

I've taken to my favourite shoe store, Spartoo, to find myself a black and/or white pair of decent trainers that I could wear every day if I wanted (not plimsoles, though my plimsoles are gold or yellow so I should get some new ones). I’ve narrowed it down to these 4 and here’s why.

craving: flat black shoes

4 February 2018

I read a lot of blogs especially fashion and personal style blogs and I've recently noticed that most don’t give enough credit to basic shoes. Sure the basics are covered when it comes to clothes and shoes get a look-in when discussing capsule wardrobes but aside from that we don’t give them the time of day. With my current need for a comfy flat shoe that’ll go with everything I thought I’d share my wish list while I shop for the perfect basic black shoe.

I’d already decided that I’d be getting a pair of flat shoes from Spartoo because I’ll be able to get a pair I love for great value. My shortlist includes pairs of flat shoes by Melissa, Marc Jacobs, Ravel, Alexander McQueen, ALDO, Dune and other brands that I like a lot and know are reliable.

craving: Zaful outerwear

31 January 2018

With the weather being pretty naff across the country at the moment it’s reasonably sensible to be looking at clothes that will keep us warm and dry. While that sounds boring, it really doesn’t have to be because there’s some great looking cosy knitwear and equally gorgeous outerwear to get excited about out there this post included as it shows some of my favs from a site called Zaful.

I love shopping for these sorts of items because it’s easy to convince yourself you’re being sensible and buying something you really need. Whether that’s true or not it neither here nor there when you’re convincing a loved one that the purchase is justified.

new in: ombre bandeau dress & how to wear it

28 January 2018

Admittedly I haven’t had chance to wear this dress from Tobi yet but as it’s brand new to me, and so very pretty, I thought I’d feature it in a ‘new in’ blog post before it sells out (it’s currently on sale!) and to show what I’ll likely wear it with when I get the opportunity.

This dress is just the right amount of classy and flashy for my taste. The loose hanky style hem makes it more wearable for me on those days that i'm not feeling a fitted style (because I love cinnamon swirls too much) it also offers more to the length of what is actually quite a short dress. Being a blend of black, grey and white means any accessory colour or material will work with it at any time of year. I'd love to wear a statement brilliant purple sandal and matching suede cross body bag with this dress - so it looks like i'm going shopping!

new in: from Moony Mood

24 January 2018

Throughout the winter months the majority of us are drawn to darker shades of the colours we love but there’s nothing wrong with injecting bright colours into an otherwise dark coloured outfit. My favourite way to do this is with statement pieces from my wardrobe like this red leather jacket by Mango. The vibrant red is both suitable for this time of year and gives me great confidence when I wear it.

While I have a collection of statement clothes that finish an outfit I believe it’s the base of the outfit that makes it what it is. My black and darker pieces are staples that work with so many different jackets, a range of accessories and a huge amount of shoes but they don’t often get enough of the credit they deserve.

new in: cold shoulder jumper dress

21 January 2018

Talking about outfits isn’t something I’ve done in a long time, since deciding last year that outfit photos weren’t for me or my blog I’ve avoided writing about clothes in this way and instead focussed on collages of items I want or outfits I’d wear but having recently added a number of great pieces to my wardrobe I’m finding my way back (see my previous blog post for another new in item). I’m rediscovering my style so I want to talk about it again and whilst I won’t be taking traditional outfit photos, as I did before, I’m going to try a few different ways to present outfits; starting with a flat lay.

craving: Tobi knitwear

17 January 2018

One of my favourite things about this time of year is being able to snuggle up in a comfy knit with a cup of hot chocolate (or even better; an irish cream coffee) and binge watch tv shows. Having recently added a number of cosy pieces to my wardrobe, with the intention of purchasing more, I'm going to do a series of blog posts to show what i'm buying and how I'm wearing these new items.

Starting with this blue/grey off the shoulder chunky knit dress from Tobi. We're only 16 days into 2018 and I've worn this jumper a number of times already this year. As with most things it's easiest to wear with all black including a waist belt, black leggings and over the knee boots. I've also worn it as a jumper with one side tucked into a pair of jeans and my Nike air trainers on foot then again as a jumper dress loose over black leggings with my Jeffrey Campbell western style ankle boots.

craving: embroidered and patch biker jackets

6 January 2018

Biker jackets are one of the most versatile items because you can wear them over anything (and so I wear them with almost everything). With that in mind, over recent years, high street stores and fashion brands have been releasing every type of biker you could imagine which means we can wear them even more often and if you're like me you can build a much loved collection of biker jackets. In addition to the leather and leather-look bikers there are now velvet biker jackets, brightly coloured jackets, suede jackets, sequin covered jackets and of course as shown in this collection blog post there are many types of decorated jackets. From embroidery to sewn on patches, badges, slogans, studs and even beading; the embellished biker jacket is growing in popularity as shown from the many shops now stocking them.

These are some of my favourites - The white jacket on the second row being at the top of my to-buy list swiftly followed by the black beautifully beaded jacket also on the second row.
